Bristol Palin tells Jay Leno that Levi Johnston needs to go back to school

Wanna-be Mayor Levi got schooled by Bristol Palin.

Sarah Palin's daughter appeared on "The Tonight Show with Jay Leno" last night to talk about her upcoming appearance on "Dancing with the Stars," but the conversation inevitably turned to Bristol's former boyfriend, and Playgirl model, Levi Johnston.

"He's changed. Night and day, definitely," Bristol said about her baby-daddy.

"The guy I fell in love with was a hard-working Alaskan man that didn’t want to wear straight-legged jeans and boots and be chased by Radar."

Johnston is currently looking for a reality gig of his own, possibly as a candidate for Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska – momma Palin’s old job.

But Bristol was unconvinced that Levi is up for the challenge of mayor.

"He needs to get his G.E.D." she told Leno. "He needs to move to Wasilla."

Johnston’s constant back-and-forth with the Palins took another turn recently when he told CBS that he said he regrets making an apology to the family for all the smack he talked about them in the past.

"The only thing I wish I wouldn't have done is put out that apology 'cause it kind of makes me sound like a liar," he said.

Hopefully, Levi's not expecting an endorsement from the former Wasilla mayor.

Comedian Robert Schimmel dies at 60

Robert Schimmel, a critically acclaimed comedian who made audiences squirm and then laugh with X-rated explorations of sexuality and vulnerability usually drawn from his own life, has died. He was 60.

Schimmel died Friday at a Phoenix hospice from injuries sustained in an Aug. 26 car accident, said his brother Jeff Schimmel. He had suffered serious head and internal injuries whose treatment was complicated by liver disease. The Scottsdale, Ariz., resident was waiting for a liver transplant at the time of his death, his brother said.

Schimmel made regular appearances on Howard Stern's radio show and was a frequent guest on "Late Night with Conan O'Brien." He starred in comedy specials for Showtime and HBO, shot a sitcom pilot for Fox and made several well-received comedy CDs. But his frank, sexually explicit routines were too provocative for the mainstream network audiences of David Letterman and Jay Leno.

Instead, Schimmel forged a 30-year career touring the nation's top comedy clubs establishing himself as an heir to three of his idols, Lenny Bruce, George Carlin and Richard Pryor, controversial comedians whose raunchy humor probed the vagaries of life. Schimmel's own sex life was the frequent butt of his jokes, which charted such territory as oral sex, masturbation and other adult fare complete with explicit anatomical references.

But after suffering a heart attack in 1998, losing an 11-year-old son to cancer, being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma - and writing a memoir about it, "Cancer on $5 a Day" - Schimmel addressed those topics too. In a 1989 Los Angeles Times review of his club act, writer Duncan Strauss described Schimmel as a "sharp" writer:

"You get the feeling that Schimmel charges into this territory, at full speed, precisely because so many of us consider it off limits and he's interested in what that says about us. Moreover, with a lot of these topics, he seems more interested in the ego and emotional workings behind the behavior - not so much the sex, but the sexual politics."

His personal manager Lee Kernis of Brillstein Entertainment said of Schimmel:

"Most of his act came from his life, and his life was pretty tumultuous and interesting. ... Humor is what gets you through everything, and it got him through everything."

Robert Schimmel was born Jan. 16, 1950, in New York City. His parents Otto and Betty Schimmel were Holocaust survivors.

Robert graduated from Spring Valley High School in 1967 and was considered the class clown. He served in the Air Force and his practical joking frequently got him in trouble with his superiors, his brother said. He moved to Scottsdale in the mid-1970s, worked as a stereo salesman and started doing stand-up on a dare from his sister Sandy.

He sold jokes to comedians Jimmy Walker and Yakov Smirnoff, wrote for Fox's "In Living Color," and appeared on HBO comedy showcases hosted by Rodney Dangerfield.

Schimmel contracted Hepatitis C while in the military, possibly from a blood transfusion or inoculation, his brother said. He had stopped touring about five months ago. Ten days ago, he was a passenger in a car driven by his daughter Aliyah, 19, that swerved to avoid an accident on a Phoenix highway, rolling the car over.

His daughter remains hospitalized in Phoenix in stable condition. Schimmel's son Jacob, 11, who was in the back seat, was released from the hospital the next day.

Besides Aliyah and Jacob, Schimmel is survived by daughter Jessica, 32; sons Sam, 7, and Max, 5; his father, brother and sister. He divorced his first wife, Vicki, several years ago and was in the process of divorcing his second wife, Melissa.

Michael Douglas suffers throat cancer

On Tuesday night, Michael Douglas, a well-known American movie star and film producer, revealed on David Letterman's "Late Show" that he was diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer early this summer and has been receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy for a week.

Mr. Douglas suspected something wrong when he felt a sore throat that did not go away. But it took a few months for Michael Douglas's doctors to finally diagnose the disease, which understandably made Douglas's wife Catherine Zeta-Jones, an award winning actress, mad.

Douglas told Letterman's audience that his doctors told me his survival rate is 80 percent even though the prognosis is poor for a stage 4 throat cancer, which can be any of a few head and neck cancers including cancers of the oral cavity, pharynx and larynx.

It remains unknown what type of throat cancer Mr. Douglas suffered. But he was cited as saying that the malignancy was caused by smoking and drinking, which is a major known risk factor for throat cancer.

Many lifestyle parameters can affect a person's risk of throat cancer. A few studies are cited below for those food consumers who may wonder if eating certain foods or diet would modify the risk. Evidence is strong that dietary pasterns and certain foods were associated with throat cancer risk.

One study led by De Stefani E. and colleagues from Universidad de Clínicas, Facultad de Medicina in Montevideo, Uruguay and published in March 2009 in International Journal of Cancer suggests that the prudent diet was negatively associated with cancers of upper aerodigestive tract including throat cancer.

Another case-control study 800 patients with confirmed cancers of the oral cavity and pharynx led by Garavello W. and colleagues from Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri in Milan, Italy found that diversity within vegetables and fruits were associated with 38 and 33 percent reduced risk of the oral and pharyngeal cancer, respectively.

Sapkota A. and colleague of International Agency for Research on Cancer in Lyon, France found that consumption of dairy products was negatively associated with cancers of larynx and the esophagus while consumption of yellow/orange vegetables was inversely linked with oral/pharyngeal and laryngeal cancer.

Preserved vegetables on the other hands were associated with increased risk of oral/pharyngeal and laryngeal cancer.

The study was published in the Dec 2008 issue of Cancer Causes and Control.

Foods that may help cut the risk of throat cancer include allium vegetables like onions and n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, according to early studies. But overall, fruits and vegetables are important foods that people can eat to reduce the risk.

Kanye West writes song for Taylor Swift
